Processes for Application to Graduate Program

For information on admission to the University you can begin by communicating with Associate Director for Graduate Studies Dr. Michael Stoune.
For information on admission to the Musicology Program you can communicate with Musicology Chair Dr Christopher J Smith.

Musicology does not require the GRE for admission to the Master's program, but it is required for admission to the PhD in Fine Arts.

The deadline for fall admission is March 1. We will then make decisions about assistantships, scholarships, admission, etc.

Generally, admission to the MM Musicology program is on the basis of 3 types of information:
  1. undergraduate transcript;
  2. a writing sample--whatever you feel best represents your interests and your writing skill;
  3. a semi-formal interview with Musicology staff (ideally, all 4 tenure-track faculty), more as a "sharing goals and interests" conversation.

We have found that the combination of these 3 types of information generally gives the fullest, aptest picture of a candidate, and also helps the candidate get a sense regarding the suitability of our program to her/his goals.

and the Music Graduate Handbook (click on "Master's Degree Programs").
